National Library of Ireland Chooses Virtua, VITAL and Visualizer

Blacksburg, VA - VTLS is proud to announce the National Library of Ireland in Dublin has chosen Virtua for their library automation needs, VITAL, our Repository Services solution and VISUALIZER, VTLS' facet-based data discovery tool. In addition, the library has also contracted for archives management and record loading. The library has more than 300,000 bibliographic records and is migrating from Sirsi/Dynix's Horizon 7.3.

The National Library of Ireland was established in 1877. It was administered as an agency within various Government Departments until 2005 when it became an autonomous cultural institution.

The National Library of Ireland's holdings constitute the most comprehensive collection of Irish documentary material in the world and offer an invaluable representation of Ireland's history and heritage. The National Library collections comprise a number of formats including printed material, manuscripts (approximately one million items in its collections spanning nearly a thousand years), visual and digital material.

"We are honored with the opportunity to work with the National Library of Ireland," said Dr. Vinod Chachra, CEO of VTLS Inc. "It pleases us that this institution selected Virtua, VITAL and Visualizer to provide a comprehensive integrated environment for managing books, digital content and discovery systems."

The National Library of Ireland joins a long list of National libraries worldwide that have chosen VTLS for their automation. These libraries include Swiss National Library, National Library of Wales, National Library of Pakistan, National Library of Australia, National Library of Slovakia, National Library of Azerbaijan, National Library of Malaysia, National Library of Singapore, National Library of India, National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco and the special collection of International ISSN Centre.
